Four steps for decision-making

Decisiones estratégicas

Every day, from the moment we wake up until we rest, we make decisions. What clothes do we wear? What do we want to eat? or Which route to take for our commute? These are questions we ask ourselves and resolve in a matter of seconds or minutes, making decisions.

The corporate world is also full of moments where decision-making can change the course of an organisation.

A survey by McKinsey Quarterly of 2,207 executives indicates that only 28% of strategic decisions in their companies were good, 60% said that bad decisions were as frequent as good ones, and the remaining 12% stated that they were very good decisions.

Correct decision-making can help your company grow. Follow these steps and streamline this process.

  • Openness to the unknown. Faced with an unknown situation or one that is not fully understood, seek information, analyse the situation, and its possible outcomes. This will help to see the future more calmly even if it is uncertain.
  • Be creative. A dose of imagination can give new nuances or alternatives to the most important decisions. For example, surprising your customer or implementing a new work practice among your employees to keep them motivated all the time.
  • Prioritise. Some situations need all the attention, but others can be delegated. Fundamental decisions should be those that require the creation of a strategy or those that will give an innovative twist to your brand or company.
  • Anticipate scenarios. It is true that no one has a crystal ball, but it is always healthy to think about the consequences that decisions may have. What is the worst that can happen? Will it not have a big impact? or What is the best that could happen? These are questions we must ask ourselves to clear up any doubts.

Decision-making is not an easy task but by following these steps, we encourage things to become simpler both in the small and in the fundamental and urgent matters.
